Sector programmes
EEDA wants to maximise its impact in the region and has decided to focus its resources on specific industry sectors.
EEDA supports major sector programmes in Life Sciences and Health Care and Information Communication and Technology (ICT). Recognising that low carbon innovation is integral to all sectors of the economy, EEDA is also developing a cross-cutting Low Carbon Innovation Programme.
This aligns economic development activities with the interdependency between technological innovation, the well-being of the individual and that of our planet.
Life sciences and health care
The East of England is the UK's leading region for biosciences. With 256 biotech companies, 100 medical technology companies and 370 service companies supporting the life sciences sector, this region is home to the most mature and successful cluster of biotechnology and life sciences companies in Europe. As such, it is a major player in the global biotech economy. EEDA's Life Science and Health Care Programme aims to transform the regions world leading position in research and development into competitive commercial success.
Information Communication and Technology (ICT)
EEDA's focus on ICT is underpinned with the rationale of trying to improve collaboration in the region and stimulating knowledge transfer through innovation networks. EEDA has supported a number of focused interventions which are aimed at supporting the growth of this mature cluster. EEDA has also recognised that the creative industries are an area critical to the region's success.
