EEDA aims to embed the regional economic strategy (RES) and corporate plan targets via spatial mechanisms into regional, sub regional and local planning, economic regeneration and community strategies.
EEDA promotes sustainable economic development and assist in the delivery of the RES at all levels of the planning system. EEDA has a planning team which operates broadly to deliver high quality planning advice and spatial guidance to EEDA and its partners.
EEDA is a statutory planning consultee and is expected to make substantive responses to planning applications of strategic significance, respond to Local Development Frameworks and to proactively engage in regional spatial strategy (RSS). The key aim in each instance is to ensure that the planning policies and strategy developed in the region represent a supporting framework for the spatial implementation of the regional economic strategy
EEDA is involved at the forefront of regional and strategic policy formulation and:
- Contributes to the delivery of the RES goals and objectives which provide the focus for the planning team. The planning team influences and works alongside regional and sub regional partners to achieve RES vision and targets.
- In particular EEDA works towards the assessment and evaluation of evidence and intelligence for the regional RSS review working closely with other regional and sub regional partners. EEDA seeks alignment with other regional and sub regional strategies working closely with other regional partners.
- EEDA is a statutory consultee on all Local Development Documents within the region and seek to work with planning authorities to define their strategies to reflect the economic priorities.
- EEDA responds to national planning issues, both individually and collectively with other regional development agencies to reflect an accurate regional picture to central government.
