Regional spatial strategy

The East of England Plan, published in May 2008, is the region's spatial strategy (RSS) and guides major development in the region to 2021.

The plan sets out regional and sub-regional spatial policies including the location of development proposals including the growth of ports and airports, strategic employment sites, district housing allocations, job growth and infrastructure provision, including transport.

It has a key role in contributing to the sustainable development of the region and sets out policies which address the needs of the region and key sub-regions.  It will influence investment decisions by regional and local stakeholders across the East of England.

EEDA has been closely involved in the preparation of East of England Plan, ensuring that it provides a positive framework for the spatial implementation of the regional economic strategy (RES). The plan was developed through and inclusive process that reflects and complement the development of 'A Shared Vision - the regional economic strategy for the East of England' and the 2007/08 review of the RES.

The key issue for EEDA will be how the region implements the step change in housing, economy and infrastructure required by the plan. This will involve accelerating local development documents and securing the necessary interventions by all partners and those in need of regeneration to boost the region's economy over the next 13 years.

EEDA, the East of England Regional Assembly (EERA) and the Government Office for the East of England (GO-East) are now working collaboratively to produce a joint implementation plan for the regional economic and spatial strategies, which will set out how strategy can be turned into action.

The East of England plan can be viewed via EERA's website or GO-East website.
