Regional Intelligence Centre
The Regional Intelligence Centre (RIC) is a new initiative within the East of England to establish a public-facing economic research unit for the region.
The core role of the RIC is to improve the understanding of the economy in the region and inform decision-making. Its outputs will be accessible to a non-technical audience and its dissemination will be aimed at a wide range of decision makers. The RIC incorporates the existing East of England Observatory and is to be launched later in February 2009.
The core roles and objectives of the RIC are to:
- improve understanding of the economy in the region and inform decision making
- inform non-experts in research and economics
- conduct research on strategic issues of regional importance; work that will inform the needs of a wide audience
- become a hub or focus for the discussion of economic issues and research via events and reports
- provide expert advice and assistance to partners throughout the region.
The types of outputs and reports that the RIC will produce in the first two years of operation will include:
- regular reports on the performance of the regional economy
- reports and insights on themes such as skills and the labour market, enterprise, innovation and how the region compares internationally
- profiles of key sectors in the region
- economic projections
- briefings on current economic issues
- links to, and collation of, useful externally authored materials.
