Designing Demand

Designing Demand is a support programme developed to help businesses use design to improve performance.

Designing Demand forms part of Solutions for Business - a highly targeted, publicly funded suite of products and services offering solutions to real business needs and tackling market failure.

What is it?

Designing Demand is a national programme, developed by the UK Design Council. It helps established small and medium enterprises (SMEs), as well as fast growing new start up technology businesses, to harness the power of design and transform their business performance. Designing Demand is helping businesses increase profits, sales and market share by using design.

Designing Demand boosts performance, speeds up growth and improves the bottom line by putting design at the centre of business strategy. It helps businesses discover how to become more innovative, more competitive and more profitable. It does it by giving managers the skills to exploit design by spotting opportunities, briefing designers and running projects that deliver.

The programme provides a variety of services delivered by Design Associates who help SMEs to understand where design fits within their business and how they can create opportunities for innovation. As a result, participating businesses develop design projects, with support from a brokered in design consultancy, over a period of time to implement those opportunities and the Design Associates provide ongoing strategic guidance to support effective design decisions. The programme is designed to give businesses a first taste of design and to transform design awareness into direct experience, and experience into repeated success.
