The East of England is home to a large and thriving pig industry. It is worth remembering that the H1N1 influenza virus (often called swine flu) is not transmitted by food. The World Health Organisation and the Food Standards Agency have both made clear that the current outbreak of flu cannot be transmitted by eating pork products. Eating properly handled and cooked pork and pork products is perfectly safe.
