Artists in the East take the lead in race for London 2012 commission

Arts Council England and London 2012 today announced the shortlist for Artists taking the lead, one of the most ambitious and wide ranging art commissions in the UK, part of the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad.

Five projects have been shortlisted for one £500,000 commission in the East region. The East shortlist is:

• Live Art Collective East: Hop, Step and Jump - A worldwide, interactive game of hopscotch. Location: Across the East of England

• Nancy J. Clemance: Hutliving Project - Artists live in and animate traditional, rural huts around the countryside. Location: Across the East of England

• Wysing Arts Centre: Artists take the lead on reversing the decline of the honeybee in the East of England - Artists set up and care for beehives across the region. Location: Across the East of England

• Pacitti Company: On Landguard Point - A community feature film celebrating a much over-looked part of Britain's coastline and its political and economic history. Location: Landguard Point, Suffolk

• Cheryl Frances-Hoad and The Prince Consort: Eastern Invocation - Leading UK ensemble The Prince Consort, directed by Alisdair Hogarth, proposes to collaborate with critically acclaimed composer Cheryl Frances-Hoad to create a new song-cycle for the East. Location: East of England
