Local people benefit from EEDA’s support of social enterprises

In Cambridge, social enterprises will be given a helping hand to set-up and grow in a new incubation centre, thanks to EEDA funding. Companies like Reboot.

Reboot gives the chance of a new life to old computers, recycling and refurbishing unwanted equipment for resale. Pete Wickham started the project back in 2006 as a way of supporting people with Asperger’s Syndrome. But Reboot now provides a range of training opportunities to help disadvantaged people get back into mainstream employment.

Reboot operate alongside other social enterprises in temporary workspace in Cambridge, managed by Citylife. Citylife’s ambitions to create a new purpose-built and environmentally-efficient enterprise centre have been boosted by a £750,000 investment from the EEDA.

Peter Wickham says: “Citylife’s dedicated guidance over the years has been invaluable to a unique business like mine. And with the prospect of brand new workspace on the horizon, I’m sure that Reboot will not only carry on recycling computers, but will also make a difference to many more people’s lives.”
