Gateway to Growth
EEDA investment has regenerated Ipswich Waterfront as a modern and vibrant area.
The Haven Gateway - the ports of Felixstowe, Harwich International, Harwich Navyard, Ipswich and Mistley - represent the single most important cluster of ports in the UK. 740,000 people already live in the area, but it is also gearing itself up for substantial growth over the next two decades. EEDA is at the forefront of meeting these challenges, investing over £71 million in the Haven Gateway since 2002.
The Ipswich Waterfront regeneration is typical of the changes taking place. The area is the largest single regeneration project in the East of England. EEDA has invested over £53 million in targeted interventions, with this funding acting as a catalyst for a further £1 billion investment from public and private partners.
EEDA has brought public and private sector funding together to support the redevelopment of the waterfront and through it the educational, economic and social prosperity of the entire area.
EEDA has funded £18.5 million towards University Campus Suffolk. 4,950 students are now learning at the Campus, engaging with over 500 businesses.
Cranfields Mill has been energised with £4 million from EEDA. The Mill will house DanceEast, providing a centre of excellence for local, national and international dance artists.
The regeneration has also catalysed interest from businesses in the area. Felaw Maltings and the hi-tech IP-City Centre are in high demand for their top quality business space, whilst a top Ipswich law firm recently relocated its offices to pride of place in Waterfront House.
