Lord Sugar

He’s hired! Lord Sugar added to line-up at region’s biggest business event.

5 October 2009

Star of The Apprentice and current government advisor on all things business, Lord Alan Sugar is the latest high-profile guest added to the line-up at Destination Growth.

At Destination Growth, which will be hosted by the East of England Development Agency (EEDA) on 3 November at AirSpace Duxford, Sugar will hold a question and answer session with just 200 ambitious business leaders from this region.

After leaving school in Hackney aged 16, Sugar started selling car aerials and electric goods out of a van he bought for £100. In 1968, he founded Amstrad, and now, over 40 years later, he has an estimated worth of £730 million, and was ranked 59th in the 2009 Sunday Times Rich List.

Sugar sold his Amstrad empire to Sky in July 2007. In 2009, having previously sat on the Business Council for Britain and fronted a campaign promoting the benefits of apprenticeships, Sugar was named as Enterprise Champion and appointed to the House of Lords as Baron Sugar of Clapton in the London Borough of Hackney.

Sugar joins an impressive line-up of over 30 world-renowned business experts, all on-hand at Destination Growth to offer practical advice on surviving and thriving during the recession. Delegates can create a tailored programme for their day – choosing from workshops, seminars and networking opportunities with up to 1,000 equally ambitious business leaders.

For a chance to join Lord Sugar’s exclusive session, register for Destination Growth before Friday 16 October at www.eeda.org.uk/destinationgrowth. Destination Growth costs £75+VAT to attend.  Once registered, delegates will be offered this opportunity on a first come, first served basis.
