The East of England Strategic Employment Sites Study
The East of England Strategic Employment Sites Study carries out an investigation of economic markets and sectors in the East of England and provides essential evidence on how the region is placed in terms of delivering the strategic employment sites to accommodate these.
The regional study defines, identifies and prioritises strategic employment sites in the East of England based on an understanding of likely future demand, including potential locations where new sites might be needed. It also provides an action plan that includes individual site actions to ensure the successfully delivery of strategic employment sites and enhance the overall competitive position of the sites for development and investment.
The consultants, Arup have examined past and future demand for strategic employment sites; and undertaken market analysis to identify growth sectors and locational requirements for employment sites.
The study has identified a hierarchy of sites. 69 sites have been classified as strategic employment sites; of which 13 have been designated as regional strategic sites, 14 as regional gateway and logistics sites and 42 as sub regional sites. Following the publication of the final report, work is now being undertaken to develop the action plan for strategic sites.
The term ‘strategic regional site’ is likely to be used in future to describe a short list of key employment sites in the region of regional and inter-regional significance, the delivery of which will be critical to the effective implementation of the regional economic strategy and the regional spatial strategy.
