The East of England Low Carbon Innovation Evidence Base report was commissioned by EEDA in partnership with the East of England ERDF Competitiveness Programme, whose underpinning theme is ‘Towards low carbon economic growth.’
The report has helped us to identify the region’s strengths and capabilities as well as opportunities for low carbon innovation.
The report has helped us develop the low carbon innovation programme.
What are the main points from the report?
The East of England leads the UK in:
- low carbon vehicles: alternative fuels for vehicles and new vehicle research, design and development
- alternative fuels such as biomass (ranked second in UK)
- waste recovery and recycling
- carbon capture and storage.
The East of England has key capabilities and comparative advantage in the following sectors:
- low carbon buildings
- offshore wind
- energy grids and network transmissions
- green ICT
- advanced materials.
What does it mean for the region’s low carbon innovation potential for the East of England?
- low carbon innovation has an envied critical mass of Research & Development capabilities between industry, academic institutions and business
