A skills strategy for the region

An interim Skills Priorities Statement for 2010/11 was written in January 2010. A new draft version for 2011/12 was completed mid-July 2010 with a final version currently scheduled to be completed and sent to government in September 2010.

This will be used by BIS to influence Skills Funding Agency investment for the 2011/12 academic year and help inform the National Skills Investment Strategy which is due for publication early October 2010.

The starting point for the Skills Priorities Statement was collating the evidence from the Regional Economic Statement and the recently completed Implementation Plan.

The Skills Priority Statement has also been informed by the UKCES Skills for Jobs: Today and Tomorrow - The National Strategic Skills Audit and the National Employer Skills Survey, the local Skills Priority Statements submitted by local authority partnerships and through the formal consultative process.

It is hoped that the Skills Priorities Statement and the component evidence will aid the future skills plans of any new Local Enterprise Partnerships (LEP) that may be formed in the East of England and the EEDA team will continue to support partners throughout the transition.

Draft Skills Priorities Statement 2011/12 now available

The first full draft of the Skills Priorities Statement has gone to BIS for their comments. A copy of which you can find below.

We have now received general feedback from BIS on all the Skills Priorities Statement submissions from the RDA's and specific feedback on EEDA's submission. This is available also below.

The final version of this Skills Priorities Statement will be submitted to BIS by the end of September 2010. Consultation from now until then is focussed on whether the priority skills issues and challenges for the East of England have been articulated. This is the final period of consultation and will end on 10 September 2010.  A final evaluation report will be published within three months of the consultation ending.

If you would like to contribute any final comments on the Skills Priorities Statement please return the consultation form by 10 September 2010 to strategicskills@eeda.org.uk
