£800k of sweet savings for Billington’s of Ipswich
- Ipswich manufacturer makes £800,000 of efficiency savings
- Support provided by EEDA’s Manufacturing Advisory Service (MAS)
- MAS advisors provide expert advice, hands-on support and training to over 500 businesses a year in the East of England
- Benefits to those who work with MAS valued in excess of £100,000 per company.
Support was provided via the EEDA-funded Manufacturing Advisory Service (MAS). A dedicated MAS advisor worked alongside the Billington’s team, reviewing the way they worked and identifying real opportunities for simple changes which would have a big impact on the company’s bottom line.
The MAS advisor then worked with Billington’s to implement those practical step-by-step changes, reducing their bloated goods inventory and speeding up production lines. It made the company much more fleet of foot.
Billington’s managed to reduce changeover times between production lines from just over nine minutes when the MAS project first started, to five minutes and eventually right down to just one minute. “It was an incredible transformation”, said Les Blair, head of cane sugar operations at Billington’s.
