‘Don’t panic’ – new guide to tackle post-exam blues

17 August 2010

‘Don’t panic’ is the clear message contained in a new guide to help young people who will be getting their exam results this week decide what to do in the future.

‘Don’t panic’ is the clear message contained in a new guide to help young people who will be getting their exam results this week decide what to do in the future.

The ‘What next?’ guide is the result of public, private and voluntary sector organisations working together in the region, under the auspices of the East of England Skills and Competitiveness Partnership (EESCP).  EESCP includes the East of England Development Agency (EEDA), the Association of Universities in the East of England (AUEE) and local authorities.

The brand new guide, the first of its kind in the region, outlines the different options 17-18 year olds can take after finishing their courses.

It is being distributed by local authorities in schools, colleges and libraries across the East of England. The guide is full of useful web links and information to inform the choices young people will need to make.

Steve Cox, executive director of spatial economy at EEDA, representing EESCP said:

“It can be a difficult and stressful time for young people when they are trying to decide what to do after receiving their results, especially if they are not the results they expect.

“The ‘What next?’ guide provides useful signposts to the options available to young people after they finish school or college.  Whatever young people decide to do, continuing to learn new skills that will be needed in the workplace is essential. Businesses need the right people with the right skills to be able to compete at home and abroad.”

A printed version of the guide has been funded by the Association of Universities in the East of England.  The guide can be visited online at their website, via the following link: www.uni-east.ac.uk/other-publications
