Redundancy support improves job prospects for staff at Lowestoft company

Redundancy support improves job prospects for staff made redundant at Lowestoft company
  • EEDA provides training and support to staff being made redundant, helping prepare a route back into employment
  • 819 information and advice sessions provided
  • 157 individuals retrained - 31 gaining NVQ’s
  • 32 apprentices supported to complete courses.

Funding and support from EEDA’s Response 2 Redundancy (R2R) programme has helped pave the way back into employment for over 800 people who have recently been made redundant from The SLP Group in Lowestoft.

Working in partnership with JobCentre Plus, EEDA provided a package of support to help prepare the engineering company’s staff for redundancy and improve future employment prospects.

The support included providing information, advice, training and helping young employees complete their apprenticeships.

The training enabled employees to gain recognised qualifications in their fields of work and gain new skills; from CV writing and interview techniques, to safety, machinery and electrical qualifications.

32 apprentices were supported to complete their apprenticeships with local education institutes. Students will be continuing their chosen career paths ranging from welding and pip fitting, to electrical and scaffolding.
