Camgrain
19 May 2008
The biggest, cleanest and greenest processing centre in the UK for wheat, barley and other crops, based in Linton, Cambridgeshire.
Locally grown combinable crops such as milling wheat and malting barley will be processed into high-grade food ingredients using new, state-of-the-art clean technology. Raising productivity, saving energy and a guarantee of farm-to-shelf traceability will increase the value of cereals grown in the region. It will ensure that the East of England's food and drink sectors remain competitive on a regional and global scale.
Facts and figures
- Camgrain will process and store an additional 90,000 tonnes of crops per year.
- Camgrain will create five full-time and 10 seasonal jobs. At least 60 jobs amongst member businesses will also be secured.
- The increased price achievable for grain of assured quality will result in business growth worth £2.1 million per year for producers (farmer members). Third party suppliers will benefit from an increased income of approximately £1.5 million.
- Carbon savings per year will be 360 tonnes which is expected to rise to 1000 tonnes per year following completion of the project.
Funding
Awarded £4million by EEDA under RDPE 2007-2013.
