The ideas exchange - redefining profit in the 21st century
6 November 2008
New businesses are created every day, they share one thing in common - the need to make a profit to survive. But, more often than not, it is passion that moves people to start a business and it is passion that continues to fuel that business.

The ideas exchange - redefining profit in the 21st century is the seventh in the popular series of ideas talks, hosted by the East of England Development Agency, aimed exclusively at leaders of the region's small and medium-sized businesses.
Register by 20 October to be entered into a prize draw to win an 'up close and personal' with Tim Smit or Timothy Campbell.
The panel
We will be joined by a panel of successful business leaders that have redefined profit.

We are delighted to welcome Liam Black as our host for the event. As chief executive of Fifteen, the chef apprenticeship programme for troubled young people created by Jamie Oliver in 2002, Liam grew the company into a successful and profitable global brand.
Our keynote speakers will be Tim Smit, chief executive and co-founder of the Eden Project which, since opening its doors in 2000, has attracted more than six million visitors and Timothy Campbell, winner of the first series of The Apprentice. In March 2007, Tim left Amstrad and founded The Bright Ideas Trust, a social enterprise established to encourage and help young budding entrepreneurs to start business ventures.
They will be joined by Karen Mattison, co-founder of Women Like Us - an award winning social enterprise that supports women with children to find flexible work and helps employers source experienced, part-time staff.
Deirdre Bounds completes this exceptional line-up. Regarded by The Telegraph as "the perfect role model for business," Deirdre is one of the UK's most prominent and successful entrepreneurs. Within ten years she became a multi-millionaire selling her ethical travel company to the largest travel corporation in the world.
You will have the chance to quiz our speakers on their approach and hear their top tips for success.
The event will close at 9pm after a buffet supper.
