During 2006-08, the EEDA has been leading the development of the new, regional economic strategy (RES) for the East of England 2008-2031. The strategy sets out a vision with bold targets and priorities so that we can drive forward as a globally-competitive region. The RES shows where we want to go and how we will get there. The regional economic strategy sets out the East of England's economic objectives and how it can achieve them. During the last year, we have been reviewing progress on the current RES and developing a new strategy for the East of England for 2008-31.
We recently undertook a formal consultation on the draft RES. The consultation closed at the end of 26 November 2007 following a 12 week consultation period. The documents are archived below.

| Quarterly Economic Update - Q3 2006. Published by EEDA each quarter, the Quarterly Economic Update provides current information on the East of England economy. This quarter the focus is on housing affordability and research and development in the East of England. |

The comprehensive spending review (CSR) is an in-depth examination of government spending and priorities to which all regional development agencies are submitting responses. This response has been written by EEDA and the East of England Regional Assembly with support from Government Office for the East of England, and outlines the region's proposals to government for a more effective, efficient, and enterprising East of England. |

The strategy has six priorities for action to ensure that resources are focused on the main things that will encourage more businesses to seek and benefit from support.

| The action plan for the development of food with local provenance from the East of England has been developed as a result of the strategy for the food and drink industry in the East of England. That report highlighted the potential for the development of local and regional food as part of the wider strategy, echoing findings of the independent policy commission on the future of farming and food (the Curry Report, 2002). The action plan shows how the wider strategy can now be put into practice. |

The National Audit Office's (NAO) independent performance assessment of EEDA showed that the organisation is performing well. Following the assessment, an improvement plan has been agreed by EEDA and the NAO. Several of the major action points in the plan are already underway. |

EEDA has volunteered to be a pilot for an independent performance assessment (IPA) to be carried out by the National Audit Office. Our self assessment is the first stage of the IPA and represents the views of both EEDA and partners, who were consulted between December 2005 and January 2006.

A large part of EEDA's role is working with other regional bodies to make sure work in the region is co-ordinated and all has the same aim.
To do this, EEDA worked with a range of partners and stakeholders to produce a regional economic strategy, outlining eight key goals.
